This Plugin is causing issue with canonical url

  • I have set a post as homepage with this plugin. I also added the canonical url in that post but when I check the canonical url of my website with any online tool, it should show https://bestmotorcyclehelmets.net but instead, the canonical url is /bestmotorcyclehelmets.net/
    I think it is affecting my website SEO, so kindly guide me about this.

    The canonical URL on that site is //bestmotorcyclehelmets.net. Starting a URL with // is a valid way of referring to a schemeless URL. Rather than specifying https:// or https://, using // could refer to either. Of course, if your site loads both with and without SSL, a schemeless canonical URL could still result in duplicate content. However, this isn’t the case since that site is set up to redirect all https:// requests to https://.

    I’ve tested how canonical URLs are set by:

    * WordPress with no plugins
    * WordPress with just the Custom Front Page plugin
    * WordPress with the Custom Front Page plugin and Yoast SEO

    As it stands, my Custom Front Page plugin doesn’t do anything with the canonical URL, although it probably should default it to the site’s home URL by default. WordPress always outputs a scheme, and Yoast uses whatever you put in the field.

    As it stands, it doesn’t appear to be an issue with the Custom Front Page plugin. I’m not sure if you are using the Yoast SEO plugin, but if you are perhaps the scheme was left off? If you are using another plugin to customize the canonical URL, then perhaps the plugin itself is removing the scheme?
