You were put on mod-watch for re-opening months-dead, old topics. Please stick to current topics; I’ve removed the flag.

You were also flagged for pinging people to support you. Please don’t do that, it isn’t fair to single out a volunteer and put pressure on them to support you.

Thanks for the reply and for removing the flag guys.

Andrew, may I ask why pingings you’re reffering to?
Most of the times I ask support questions to the plugins’ authors but when I get no replies I just use the @ method so they can see it.

Exactly. And generally they’re in the context of bumping a thread. Please do not do that.

Alright, I’ll just use it for active threads then.

    Why are you using it?

Because I think the authors will be notified?

I’m going to re-add the flag. I’m asking you not to do that for the reason that it isn’t fair to single out a volunteer and put pressure on them to support you.

Anyway, I won’t do it from now on.

I was just hoping for a better explanation.

Ah okay thanks for the clarification. The flag is removed.

Thanks, but can you please explain a bit better, if by using @, the authors get indeed a notification to the support threads?

Plugin and theme authors monitor (or should monitor) threads in their subforums via tools included in the forum software, so it’s not neceessary to use an @ tag. As a moderator, I use them to insure that the target of the @ is notified, as it forces the system to send an email regardless of whether the “Notify me of follow up replies” is checked. I try to use it judiciously.

When it’s used for something like

@catmaniax, is there an update on this?

    it is, IMHO, just obnoxious.

In this thread https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/general-overview-ui (from which your reply was removed) , you called out to someone not involved in the thread.

Thanks for the reply Steve, I now understand better.

By asking if there’s any update coming on support threads of the past, that most of the times I get replies from the authors that “it’s coming” and it’s forgotten there for months, I don’t think I’m forcing anything on anyone, I’m just reminding them, so I can see if the promised features are indeed coming or they just say so to not be bothered anymore.

Another thing, is that some authors decide to be selective on which threads they answer.

As for the example on the link you posted, I was just calling out to the plugin author and not just a random person, seeing as he was active on other threads on a later date than my thread was created.

I’d like to know what you think.
    Thanks again.
