I’m not able to access my self-hosted site through jetpack and wordpress.
This issue is apparently what’s not allowing me to connect/post to my blog via a desktop app like ‘Marsedit’ or iPhone apps like the WordPress app and Blougtouch Pro app.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Jetpack uses your site’s XML-RPC file to communicate with WordPress.com. Unfortunately I cannot access that file on your site at the moment:
    https://www.politificating.com/xmlrpc.php

If you use a security plugin to block access to the file, you’ll need to configure it to allow incoming and outgoing connections to /xmlrpc.php.

If you do not use such plugin, you’ll want to contact your hosting provider and ask them if they currently block access to your site’s XML-RPC file.

I hope this helps. Please get in touch again if you have any questions.

    Thank you Jeremy.
My hosting provider replied with the following…

The issue that you faced with Jetpack is because access to xmlrpc.php was disabled in the server. It was disabled as a measure to boost security for wordpress sites in the server. We have now enabled the xmlrpc.php for you account alone. Please check from your end whether the issue is fixed, if the issue with the plugin still persists, please get back to us with your wordpress admin login credentials.

Note : We strongly suggest you to install and activate the plugin “disable-xml-rpc” in your WordPress account. The plugin “disable-xml-rpc” supports the working of Jetpack along with disabling access to xmlrpc.php. ie, this plugin will ensure security to your account.

Excellent. Do you now experience any issues when connecting Jetpack to WordPress.com, or when using some of its features?

You can follow the recommendations of your host and enable that plugin if you’d like; it will not stop Jetpack from communicating with WordPress.com, as your host mentioned.

Seems to be working fine now. A couple hiccups with the app ‘BlogTouch Pro’ but I’m working on that with the developer as I’m not having problems with the WordPress app anymore.
