• For a few months I had a site up on blog-city ( https://mounty.blog-city.com ), but then I thought, why pay for something and not get the full use out of it? So I took the money I was putting there towards getting my very own corner. The result is https://www.mountyscorner.com. I tried copying some (okay, most) of the design elements – that was my main goal when I ported the site over to WP. I modified someone’s 3-column layout and fooled with some of the graphics. Now I’m starting to wonder what I could do to jazz it up a little, so I turn to the design gurus that hang out here. Any suggestions on layout, graphics, etc.? Thanks.

  • Well, I don’t know what you could do. I really like it the way it is, but I’d probably look into making it liquid instead of fixed, meaning when you view it in a different screen resolution, it’ll shrink or grow, because you currently have a horizontal scrollbar if I’m at 800×600, but at 1200×1024 (my res) it looks great.

Interesting thought. I’ve only scaled down to 1024, which is what most people nowadays are running. How would I do what you suggest?

Yes, this is a very clean look. The grays and browns are very soothing to the eye. I love it.

But making it liquid would be sweet. 3-column liquid is quite a challenge, but you can do it.

Any examples of a 3-column liquid so I can get an idea of how to do it?

Funky! Anyone who knows more about CSS care to let me know exactly what I just did? Since I expected something strange might happen, I have the liquid layout (which looks like something spilled on a Persian rug) at https://www.mountyscorner.com/blog/liquid.php. Thanks.

Never mind – I fiddled with the CSS (gotta love the Web Developer extension for Firefox!) and got it looking good. So I’m liquid now. What else can I do?
