• This is the original hack from Dodo for b2, converted (the insides are completely different) to work well with WordPress 0.72. You can see it at work on my blog:
    https://dinki.mine.nu/weblog/index.php?p=429&more=1&c=1
Test it out, make lots of comments, see what you think. I have made the instructions as simple and lucid as possible. If you have any questions, post on here or email me. You might have to tweak your CSS to suit yourself. I have tested the installation in both IE and Moz and it looks all right. ?? Let me know what you think!
Here is the link to the hack
    Peace

  • Hooray! Thanks labellissima!!! *does a happy dance*

@debra: np. Glad to help. I hope it works for you as it does for me.

I feel pretty stupid, because I’ll bet the fix is something easy, but I can’t seem to figure it out.
I installed this hack and it seems to be working OK, except that the div for the threaded comment is showing up like this: <div id=”commentwithin”></div> with nothing inside it and the threaded comment starting *after* the div.
I moved stuff around in my comments template for an hour or so before giving up on it and coming here.
Can someone please help me? If need be, I’ll email my modified files to anyone who wants to take pity and take a closer look at it.

Either you missed some code or another bug has surfaced for the new version of WordPress. I suggest following through the installation again to make sure you put in all the code (especially the ones in wp-comments.php). As your hack stands right now, the reply does not start a thread but continues as a single comment.
Please let me know through email (look at my profile), this thread gets lost.

Would it possible to integrate comment notification with this hack? Like, people can choose to get an email notification whenever someone replies to their comment.

That will be part of a future release, Felisha. Though I am not sure when that is going to be.

    LL,
i tried the first step, running the add_comment_reply_ID.php, and it says it can’t connect to the DB?
    what is wrong?

@caroline: did you put the add_comment_reply_ID.php in the root of your WordPress blog? Also, what version of WP are you using?
PS: If this thread gets lost and I do not reply, please feel free to email me.
    ??

Hi, does anybody have this working on the 1.2 alpha?

Lauren: I would go through the hack instructions one more time to make sure you included all the right peices of code.

Can anyone tell me if this hack works with the current nightlies or was it rendered obsolete already?

i installed your hack, and it only partially worked. if you reply to a comment, the reply gets threaded under the comment, but the reply also gets shown lower on the page too!!
    for example:
    1
    2
    3
when comment 4 is added as a reply to comment 1, it ends up looking like this:
    1
    4
    2
    3
    4
    why is that?
    *v

damn. WP messed up my formatting on the last post. it was supposed to look like:
    1

    • 4
    • 2
      3
      4
