Three websites using the same theme, but two are very slow – confused?

well scores are a bit .. vague really; when comparing the 3 sites, what are the differences in lab date (timings) and in opportunities?

OK, understand.

According to GTmetrix all are “in the green” but it seems that the page load time for the two less good ones are longer.

I’ll run gtmetrix again for them & put the results on here, if that might help to narrow down the issue.

It’s odd because they each appear to be the same other than what’s written on the page & any graphics etc.

Weird … & frustrating too.

no absolute need for an extra tool, a detailed comparison of the GPSI results should show some info that is more relevant then just the overall score (which mainly serves as gamification anyway) ??

Thanks for the help on this. I’ve included links to the results for the two ‘bad’ sites and the one ‘good’ one as I’m not sure what specifically to look for to guide me as to what needs to be adjusted.

All three have a lot of green scores, but the two ‘bad’ sites have 2.3 & 2.8 sec load times whereas the ‘good’ one has 0.7 sec

All I can see is that on the Y-Slow page these two items are highlighted:

Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN) – there’s a mix of results, E & C & E

Add Expires headers – Both the ‘bad’ sites have E not C

Now, if I can make some adjustments to get the other two down to 0.7 sec …. mmm, interesting.

well, the good one seems to have page caching, while the other two do not (or it’s not working, based on the time to first byte)?

I’ve just checked they’ve all got LiteSpeed Cache but the two ‘bad’ ones had a different setting, now adjusted. It seems I’d missed a setting in Automptimze too

One’s now gone up from M 71 D 85 to M 84 D 97, which is in the right direction, but the other seems to have gone backwards from M 71 D 87 to 59 / 88?

I’ll take another look later.

take into account that even when testing the same site you can get different results, so either run tests manually 3-5 times and use the median result or switch to webpagetest.org (which I prefer over gtmetrix) where you can choose the amount of runs in a test and median result is shown automatically?

One is still staying lowish but the other’s improved (I think?)

I don’t want to take up too much of your time, but is there anything in those reports that stands out for you as something I could, or should adjust to improve page speed etc?

Well, the rendering is significantly slower on the first one, see comparison with the fastest one at https://www.webpagetest.org/video/compare.php?tests=200512_9N_515863f6d5e22285a62b6a3141a16b7a,200512_10_b3ad93be0413c814b70848567e1e616d-r:2-c:0 … can be lots of reasons for that, hard to pinpoint without deep-diving whick I lack the time for ??

What you could do to improve rendering perf. on all 3 sites:
* don’t use Google Fonts (or combine & preload them if you insist)
* look into “inline & defer CSS” (see AO FAQ for more info)

thx will check again since I couldn’t see what might be slowing that site down.
