Thumbnail error

I was getting error getimagesize_error_common
I read a post people having problem with images and to enable dummy that didn’t work all it did was remove the src=getimagesize_error_common and left the <img width.. height..>
I know it is a conflict with the themes thumbnail creation. My theme crops the thumbnails of the featured image, when I turn off cropping it works fine. So for now I have it set to disabled but would really like to have them cropped.
So how do i (we) get this working correctly for drive images in a theme that crops the images when creating the thumbnail.
