    Dan,

Thanks for the recent rollout of the latest version. I’ve been monitoring the previous thread on thumbnails, and was looking forward to this latest update.

I applied the update this morning, went to the Settings page (very nice), and attempted to use the “Thumbnail Generation” options. After checking various boxes and attempting to “save”… none of the boxes would remain checked… and I’m still getting the generic PDF thumbnail on the rendered pages

Any ideas? Am I missing something?

    Hi stratpack,

I believe this is related to this issue.

I’m going to mark this as resolved for now, but if updating to 2.0.1 doesn’t resolve your problems, please do let me know so I can dig into it further.

    Thanks!

    Dan,

Thanks for the very quick response (seriously, I had an issue with a theme that went nearly 5 weeks before they even acknowledged with a reply/post).

I followed your link and read through the other thread, and I too had that same issue on the upgrade. To resolve the warnings, I just went through each pull-down with the error and set the default value… and the install appeared to complete normally. Just to be sure, I deactivated and reactivated the plugin, at that time. That was prior to my post (above).

After reading your reply, I deactivated and reactivated with no success. I then applied the 2.0.1 upgrade and attempted the deactivate/reactivate process again… and still no luck. The checkboxes will not remain “checked” following the “save” action.

Are these relying on some other plugin/tool being installed that I’m missing? I feel like there must be something really obvious that I’m missing.

In the end, the world won’t stop revolving if I don’t have the image of the file rather than the generic pdf image… but it would be great if I can get this working.

    Thanks, – Tom C.

    Thanks for the followup, stratpack!

What version of WP are you running?

Let’s try something else. Do you mind uninstalling the plugin and then re-installing?

The plugin doesn’t rely on anything external to handle the settings page. Most of that is handled by WP core with my code only validating content before it’s pushed up into the database. It’s possible that something was corrupted in the DB content, so uninstalling should clear anything bad in the database and get you to a fresh start.

Let me know what that does and we can go from there.

    Dan,

Your suggestion worked perfectly. Your intuition about the database appears correct. I deactivated, uninstalled (deleted all files, etc), and then did a fresh pull (auto-install from WP)… and it worked perfectly.

The Settings page immediately showed both the “Locally Generate Audio and Video” as well as the “Use Ghostscript” options pre-checked from the fresh installation.

I went to my page where the [dg] shortcodes were already in place, and voila… everything was still there and the PDF thumbnails were perfect. Seriously, it couldn’t have been any simpler and gone any better.

Thank you again for such quick response and accurate problem resolution. Awesome!!!

So glad to hear it, Tom!

Not sure why my update script is failing, but glad we got everything sorted out!
