    Hi,

I am having a problem regenerating thumbnails on the site. I’ve had to ask my client to redo two galleries because of this issue, so they did the first two but are asking for a solution for regeneration, because it’s going to take too much time to manually re-add them.

I see in this thread from 2-years ago, this could be a permissions issue with the host. They are on WP Engine.

Here’s the old post referencing this issue, but the file structure may have changed, so I’m not seeing what the original post author was alluding too when she updated her permissions.

I found the plugin’s storage folder under /sites/1/nggallery/…

I changed the permissions on all from 775 to 755 but that didn’t change anything.

    Hi @tonyzeoli,

Can you please try to see if you are being able to use any other feature from the “Bulk Actions” besides “Create new thumbnails” like “Recover from backup” to see if that will work for you?

If it doesn’t – I would check for a plugin conflict. For this purpose, please temporarily deactivate all the other plugins excepting NextGen Gallery plugin then try again to see if this solves the problem.

I already disabled all plugins and tried it, but will do again. Will also try to see if another feature is impacted.

I put the site into staging and turned off every plugin but NextGen. Still errors out.

Tried to restore from backup on live site and that didn’t work.

Can you please create a new gallery name it for example Test Gallery and try to “Create New Thumbnails” for it to see if that will succeed?

    Okay. Will do.

Okay, they work on any new gallery created, but all the old galleries don’t work. There must be some issue with an update or something between the old galleries created and new ones created. I know we can spend this time creating new galleries, but the client wants a one-click solution and does not want to spend time created 15 new galleries when this should work. Not sure why older galleries aren’t working correctly.

    Hi @tonyzeoli,

Can you please go to a old gallery ( in “Gallery -> Manage Galleries” ) for which you are unable to generate new thumbnails and simply press the “Save Changes” button ( without modifying anything ) then try to to generate new thumbnails for that gallery again to see if you will be allowed to do so?

Yes, I did this, but nothing happened.

I’m starting to think it could be one of two things.

First, we’re using Cloudflare, but I disabled Cloudflare and tested and it returned an error.

Second, we’re on WP Engine and we’re using their LargeFS integration to push files to AmazonS3 to reduce exposure to storage limits on WP Engine. I’m wondering if this could be the issue.

Okay, I talked to WP Engine and this is an issue with WP Engine and LargeFS. They are going to help download from LargeFS the files and restore them so they can regenerate. Let’s keep this open for now and I’ll report back on the success of that effort.

    Hi @tonyzeoli,

Thanks for the update. NextGen currently requires all the images to be physically located in one of the “wp-content” folders and respectively it wouldn’t work with any CDN Image Hosting services.

    Happy New Year Eve!
