So, correct me if I am wrong, but unless you check off “set fix dimensions…YES” in your gallery settings, the thumbnail aspect ratio should correspond to the aspect ratio of the images. Correct?

Because my gallery doesn’t seem to be working correctly. It is resizing the 2.39:1 to about 4:3. I don’t know if this is helpful at all, but when I turn on “Gallery Settings…Basic Thumbnails…Override Thumbnail Settings…Yes” The entire page doesn’t load any longer. It gives the error message:

“There has been a critical error on your website.
Learn more about debugging in WordPress.”

As soon as I disable that, it goes back to showing the image gallery (although it still has the incorrect aspect ratio on the thumbnails. Any thoughts?

    Hi @evanerichards,

If checking “Set fix dimension”, when creating new thumbnails, NextGen will generate thumbnails with the specified resolution ignoring the original image’s ratio.

I am wondering to hear that if you are trying to override the thumbnail settings from “Gallery Settings” the page won’t load. Perhaps it has to do with the gallery size. Can you please try to see if a smaller gallery will load with this setting ON?

Well, I have “Set fixed dimensions” to OFF and it is still changing/cropping the thumbnails. I don’t REALLY want to override the thumbnail settings, I only want them not to be cropped and was hoping overriding the thumbnail settings might help.

    Hi @evanerichards,

While adjusting Gallery > Gallery Settings you are setting up a default value for that gallery display view. Nevertheless, if you already changed any setting of that gallery display while inserting your photos, it will overwrite the default settings.

We noticed that you are already using another alternative.
We weren’t able to replicate the same critical error back in our testing sites, so that could be a conflict or an environmental issue.

So if you are willing to take some time to troubleshoot, here is our suggestion.
    – Temporarily deactivate all your plugins except NextGen Gallery.
    – Is the problem solved? Then, it was caused by one of your plugins. Please check one by one and find the one causing the problem.
    – If the problem is not solved with the deactivation of the plugins, try changing to a standard WordPress theme, it could be a conflict with your current theme.

    Please, keep us posted.

As I mentioned in my other post the thumbnails seem to be affected by my VPN. When I view the webpage while logged into my VPN everything looks messed up but as soon as I turn it on, it looks find again.

    Weird.

    Hi @evanerichards,

We’d like to take a closer look to see if we can reproduce the problem and perhaps ask you for some screenshots that would showcase the difference on how your gallery page looks with and without VPN.

Please send us an issue report here: https://www.imagely.com/report-bug, refer back to this forum thread, and let them know Mihai referred you.

    Many Thanks.
