Thumbnail Sizing Problem and Apply CSS Class

I’ve been working with the Pro version of the plugin for a couple of months. Have two problems.
Although I’ve been consistently choosing “Show Same Size Thumbnails” the resulting thumbnails vary in size, throwing the grid off. The latest gallery is a 3 column layout and all the original images are over 400 px in both dimensions. Do the original images have to be identical in size?
I need to apply a CSS class to the images in the gallery. (Specifically a 1 px border in #FF9900.) How can I do that?
