Thumbnails Cutting People’s Heads Off

The WordPress built in image uploader that creates thumbnails tends to cut off the very top portion of the image- usually leaving photos of people with no heads. I have looked all over for a fix but can’t find one. I like the 150×150 size, but I would really like know if their is a fix for the top portion being the part that gets cut off.
