Thumbnails don’t get moved

  • Hi,

    When I moved an image to a subfolder and re-scanned the main folder, suddenly all thumbnails (e.g. image-150×150.jpg) were displayed the main folder list.

    Looks like the corresponding thumbnails were not moved with the image. Is this behavior intended?

    Re-tested it by moving images from /subfolder1 to /subfolder2/subsubfolder1.

    Physically contents after move:
    /subfolder1 -> The thumbnails of the images, but not the images anymore.
    /subfolder2/subsubfolder1 -> The images including the thumbnails.

    Displayed in MLF before sync of the folders:
    /subfolder1 -> Nothing
    /subfolder2/subsubfolder1 -> The moved images

    Displayed in MLF after sync of the folders:
    /subfolder1 -> All the thumbnails
    /subfolder2/subsubfolder1 -> The moved images

    This looks like a bug to me.

    I cannot say for certain why this happened, but if for some reason the number of thumbnail sizes changed, which could happen when a theme is changed or a plugin is added, then the current list of sizes may not match all the thumbnail sizes in the folder on the server. Thus, during a move, the plugin may fail to delete all the thumbnails in the original folder. The sync function is useful for finding these orphaned thumbnail images. Also an extra image may be added to a folder if you edit an image using the WordPress image editor.

    Currently I am not able to reproduce this issue on my test site. It may be something related to the configuration of your site. If you can go to the Media Library Folders Support page on your site, to the System Information tab, there you can highlight and copy the configuration of your site and paste it into an email which you can send to me at [email protected].

    Previously a user has an issue with thumbnails because he was using an image compression plugin that removed the image metadata from the database. I do see any image compression plugins on your site. Otherwise, it could be an issue with the LiteSpeed server that you are using. This is not the first time issues with LiteSpeed have come up.
