• I’ve been able to create a description and thumbnail for my categories for ages but only recently when I tried to update the description on one of my categories the thumbnail is stripped out for some reason.

I’m not sure if this is something WordPress is doing or my theme. I went through the changelog of my theme and I didn’t find anything. I deactivated all of my plugins to see if it would accept the thumbnail but it keeps stripping it out.

All of the thumbnails in the other categories like this Diva Hall of Fame</aare still there. It only disappears if I make changes to the description or even swap out the thumbnail. It's odd.

Is this something new from WordPress or does anybody have any suggestions as to what I might be missing?

  • It’s not new. WordPress has always allowed only a few HTML tags in taxonomy descriptions. You probably used a plugin to get the other tags in there, and then got rid of the plugin.
    Plugins that can help:

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/rich-text-tags/
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/categorytinymce/

You’re right in that WordPress is stripping it out. It does the same with the Author bio/description as well – which I just updated using HTML markup and took it effortlessly.

However, when I attempt to add markup for a category description with a thumbnail representing the category – it strips it out. Since I’ve never used a plugin to make that work and there are plently of examples on my site, I thought I’d ask.

Anyway, thanks for the plugin referrals. I’ll check them out and see if they work for me but I’ll likely see if there is some code I can add to the funciton.php file first that will achieve the same thing. If not – yet another plugin for a seemingly small task.

    Thanks again!
