Thumbnails for posts on archive page

I am looking for a reliable wordpress plugin which displays a small thumbnail image on the left of an exerpt. I am hoping that the text will appear directly beside the image as opposed to underneath it (much like it would appear in an html table using <td>’s). I do not want to use tables in my layout but I do not understand how I can format the desired structure within the posts. I am not as familiar with php as I am with css and if there is a way that I can structure inside posts, any links to resources or help here would be wonderful.
My goal for the excerpts is to create a “services” page. I would like an image and a short exerpt for each service which will be displayed in its own seperate post. If there is another way which this can be accomplished, please feel free to reply. It will be much appreciated!
