Thumbnails in media library disappeared

What did you do before this issue happened? Changed domain, server, etc.?

Meanwhile, to rule out any plugin related issue, try deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).

I did not know about it until I tried to upload a photo to a post I updated. I could upload the photo but it would not be visible in my Themify (Magazine theme) blog. So I asked Themify support. They told me to disable my child theme, so I did. that did not fix the problem. I was, however, finally able to upload an image and get it visible but shortly after that I lost all the images in my library.

{The above is to the best of my recollection. I do not recall doing anything else but I might have, although it is doubtful.}
Also, I know one of the things the Themify tech did was disable all the plugings, or so he said.

I know, it is a horrible retelling of events. Not much help for troubleshooting. Sorry. I did not expect this to happen but who ever does. maybe I should start keeping a journal when I have troubles. that might help. I dont’ know, does anyone do that?

(also, I just tried switching to my Child Theme and it did not fix the problem)
(I only updated one post, if I copy the post can I just use Updraft to restore a backup and then cut and paste my copied post back into it?)

One more thing. I did use Eli’s Gotmls to remove some malware. I forgot about that. Here is a list of all the files the malware checker did not like:

Why is it blacklisted?
How do I get it removed. I clicked the removal request and it looks like they want me to pay for their service. Sort of like what the hackers do to remove malware from Windows 10. A pay me or your computer won’t work type of deal.
It said 8 sites were fine but Norton had a problem with me.

We are not affiliated with them. It’s upto you how and from whom you want to fix your site.

I did not think about this but I had my email suspended a few weeks ago because someone sent a bunch of emails through it. THat is why I got Eli’s Gotmls and WordFence.
I did not check the image library until I updated the post, maybe it happened when the person broke in and sent the emails and I never saw it. I don’t blog professionally. I don’t do stuff to my site everyday or even every week.

As for the Norton blacklist.
I can probably just navigate to Norton and ask them why or that they re-scan it.

Still, I need to figure out how to fix the image library. Will restoring an old backup from before the hack fix it, or do those backups not include the image library.

Additional:
WHat would be the purpose of breaking into my site to send emails. The host sees it and shuts it down anyway, so I doubt they could send that many out. Is there another purpose. My site is not big or important, so it has no sensitive information or great security to go around that someone could brag about getting past. Is it really worth the time to break in just to send emails?

Then I put in Force Regenerate Thumbnails and it recreated 9 and failed on the other 345 images. I tried to redo it but after it failed again on the first 10 images I aborted.

That ‘Force Regenerate Thumbnails’ plugin has no support. Use a plugin that is actively supported, i.e. plugin support threads are being answered. Then if you continue to have a problem with a thumbnail generation plugin, create a support thread in that plugin to discuss the problem.

Don’t bother yourself with this question, it doesn’t help and you’ll never find out why.
