Thumbnails quality issues

Hi,

You can change the thumbnail size by changing values of Generated Thumbnail Dimensions and Frontend Thumbnail Dimensions options.

Generated Thumbnail Dimensions (Photo Gallery Options > Global Options > Thumbnail Options) defines the physical size of thumbnail images, while Frontend Thumbnail Dimensions (Photo Gallery Options > Shortcode Defaults > Thumbnail Options) is its display size. So it is important to keep frontend dimensions smaller than generated dimensions.

After making these changes you need to Recreate thumbnails. This is done to have a nice resolution for thumbs.

Then edit your gallery page and make sure Image thumbnail dimensions is set to the desired size here as well.

I am having the same problem with poor thumbnail quality. I made sure the frontend dimensions are smaller than the generated dimensions.

Strangely, the images that are more “square” in shape have better quality than the ones that are “rectangular” in shape?
Also, it looks like the images that are less than 800KB look better as a thumbnail than the ones that are larger – except – It’s not really consistent, because the line drawings are under 200KB and they are lossy as thumbnails also…

Please let me know what I can do to resolve this issue.

Hi,

If you changed the thumbnail size by changing values of Generated Thumbnail Dimensions and Frontend Thumbnail Dimensions options, please try to Select all images, click on Recreate Thumbnails from Bulk actions.

Thank you for the tip.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to have done anything.
I tried several times, choosing “apply” (next to “bulk actions”) and “publish” from bulk actions after selecting all images and clicking “recreate thumbnails.”
Nothing has changed.
??
Any other suggestions? Am I missing something?

Could you please provide the screenshots? Also, try again to click on Recreate Thumbnails from Bulk Actions.

Hi,

Please try set up the Generated thumbnail dimensions: into a larger number because your images are larger. Please see the following image.

Afterwards, please go to an each Gallery, select the images, Bulk actions > Recreate Thumbnails > Apply.

Hello,
It did fix SOME of the images. Thumbnails 1,2,8,9,14 and 18 look GREAT. But the rest are still really blurry/poor quality and even look worse than before?
When I right-click on a thumbnail, and “view image” the ones that are clear are bigger. Not sure why it has recreated some and not others? The large images are fine.

Any other ideas, please? Thanks for your help so far!

Photo Gallery Options > Global Options > Thumbnail Options-> Generated thumbnail dimensions= 500 x 500
Photo Gallery Options > Shortcode Defaults > Thumbnail Options >Frontend thumbnail dimensions -250 x 150

After these settings, please try to recreate Thumbnails again from the Gallery.

Please see the following link where you will see the images with these settings are not blurry.
