I have just noticed what I think is a bug related to daylight saving time. We are in the Eastern Time zone, US, where the clocks will change on Nov. 4 at 2 AM. I have an event set up for Nov 4. It’s set for 9:30 AM to 11 AM, but the event posts showing 830 to 10 AM. The Settings for the site are set as New York time zone, not as UTC-4.

You can see the event here: https://vcjewishcenter.org/event/annual-bazaar-carnival-2/

Also, I just noticed that the slug for the event is unrelated to the event itself. The next Sunday’s event, which actually is the Bazaar and Carnival has the same slug except as -3.

I am currently running 4.6.25, which is one version back, but the changelog for the current version does not cite any change related to this.

Additional events after the shift to Standard Time are having the same problem. Example: https://vcjewishcenter.org/event/annual-bazaar-carnival-3/

Problems persist after updating to 4.6.26

Hey @jkengineer, thanks for reaching out!

DST can be tricky, is the timezone for the event the same as the global time?

Does changing to UTC resolve anything?

    Take care,

Your response doesn’t make complete sense to me.
The event is local. At the moment we are UTC-4. Sunday we will be UTC-5. The time zone is a global setting. I see that I can set Events Calendar to have manual time zone settings for each event. That’s not particularly practical or appropriate. We display multiple events per day to inform our members of repeating events.

The way I read what is happening: I enter an event that is happening in the future (normal action), I enter the time it will happen for the day on which it will happen (normal action), your software notices that we change from DST to ST between when I enter the event and its occurence, the software subtracts an hour from the time I set – making it incorrect. The software is over compensating.

I think you need to have the time that is set for the event be the time of the event. I don’t think most of your users are dealing with astronomical events whose times will not be local!

I discovered that there was a time zone field available next to the time setting for the event. It was set for UTC-4, rather than New York. I changed it and the displayed times are now correct.
I now realize that is what you were referring to. I did not realize it before.
I’m not sure how it got to be UTC-4.
I am marking this as resolved.
