• In April 2014, I used this plugin to migrate a site from a production to locally hosted server, and had reasonable success. At the time, I gave the plugin 4 stars. Recent experience using the plugin to move a locally hosted site to a production server was a long, frustrating, time-consuming experience. Copying & pasting the url in the plugin on the production side continually threw an error message ‘Incompatible archive’. Since this type of error has been around a while, it surprises me the plugin authors haven’t seen fit to address it properly. When I was able to restore my site on the production server, much of the site’s written content was missing. I had to upload my db backup from my localhost and overwrite the production server db tables to get the rest of the content up and running. My difficulties may be confined to my hosting service (GoDaddy). I will try using the WPC again with a different hosting service, and see if I get a better result. At this time, I’m open to trying a different plugin to help move site files and databases.
