Timeago plugin with P2 theme auto updates. How to?

The timeago plugin naturally fits with the p2 theme. I have changed the entry.php and added
<?php the_time_ago(); ?>which works well for all posts on a refresh of the page. However the auto updates do not show the fuzzy time just the default one. I can’t seem to find the correct file or code to change in order to get these saying the right thing. Any ideas out there?
