I’ve just spent a frustrating morning configuring all the settings in this plugin, and attempting to compose a newsletter, only to be greeted with 503 errors every time I try to edit the newsletter. My server’s error log is showing a long string of timeout apache errors. What could be the problem?

The 503 errors usually indicate resource limits on the hosting such as processes, memory, etc.

What does the hosting provider say? Have you reached those resource limits and can they increase them for you?

I put in a trouble ticket with the host. They said “something is taking a really long time to accomplish”. They guessed mail not being configured properly, but I don’t see how that could be since 1) this is happening while trying to compose the newsletter, not while tring to send it; and 2) when I test the mail settings, I get a Success message and the test email goes through. It serms to be the Live preview that just spins and spins, and even clicking the “view message” button causes the page to throw a 503 error. Would seeing the error log help pinpoint the issue?

The Ajax requests on the Newsletters > Create Newsletter page such as the live preview, spam score checker, etc. could cause limits to be reached by creating too many connections/processes.

You can turn off the preview and spam score utility under Newsletters > Configuration > General > Sending Settings (select “Advanced” admin mode at the top) to prevent that.

See if that resolves the issue?

That seemed to resolve the hangups. Thanks!
