I manage a photo-related WordPress site for a family member and the site has used the NextGEN Gallery ever since it was set up for him by many years ago.

One thing that has bugged me for a few years is that I when I go into the NextGEN Gallery section of the website admin and review the content of a gallery, the date shown next to every photo is months prior to when the photo was taken or uploaded. I haven’t calculated an exact discrepancy, but e.g. some photos that I know were taken about July 18 this year, plus or minus a couple days, and uploaded about a week or so later all show a datestamp in the range 2023-09-22 to 2023-09-25. So pretty close to ten months wrong.

The web host’s clock appears to be fine. I can create a new page on the WordPress site, and it shows a timestamp that is correct after accounting for timezone difference.

Any ideas what causes this issue with the NextGEN Gallery listings? Is there any way to get the datestamp display to show correct taken or uploaded values?

    Hi @rschmunk

I am glad to help. When you click on the “meta” button below each image in Manage Galleries, what date is displayed? See my screenshots here and here

I ran this test with images from my iPhone 14 Pro Max, an old Lumia Phone and my Olympus camera, which all show proper dates.

I think there could be something wrong with the device used to take the pictures or with how they are handled before uploading that might change the metadata in the files.

Are these images taken in different devices? Are all uploaded from the same device?

I will be waiting for your reply.

    Thanks!

The dates in photo Metadata are the same shown in the panel listing the photos in the gallery.

Photos posted in the past couple years are I believe all from the same camera.

Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the camera in question, so cannot easily find out if somehow its clock settings are somehow 10 months off.

    Hi @rschmunk

I took one of my images and ran it through https://www.thexifer.net/ and changed the date, it now shows august 1st,which is what I set. I would suggest you to check the image data from the files you receive and if they look off, then it is probably a problem with the device they are taken.

This means you would need a bulk metadata editor to make the changes easier.

    I hope this helps.

Despite being on opposite coasts of the US, I got the family member photographer to check his camera settings. Indeed, it seems his camera’s clock is somehow 10 months slow. Which he’s somehow never noticed. I wonder if it’s been like that ever since he got the camera new.

And I used to get perturbed if my own camera’s clock was off because I forgot the Daylight/Standard time change and my photo timestamps were off an by an hour. Sigh.

    Thus… Close this trouble ticket.
