Hi, thanks for the plugin! I was wondering how the timezone is set for the statistics? Obviously for my website, I see data based on US time and not German time (my location). Maybe due to Cloudflare CDN? How about let the (admin) user define the timezone in plugin settings? Cheers, Martin

    Hi @martinstoetzel,

It uses the timezone set under general settings in your WordPress installation. This is where you could change it. If it doesn’t match, let us know!

    regards Aert

Hi Aert, thanks for your reply. The timezone in general settings is set to Berlin. Now it is 20:50 in my time, see screenshot. The plugin shows data until 13:00 which is 7-8 hours deferred.

Thanks for having a look. Cheers, Martin

    Hi @martinstoetzel,

Thanks for sharing the screenshot. It looks like your website is hosted in the USA and/or Canada. Could that be correct?

I think the bug could be related to that. I’ll look into this tomorrow morning because I’m in the same time zone and I’ll go to bed soon ??

I’ll give you an update somewhere tomorrow.

    Kind regards,
    Hessel

    Hi @martinstoetzel,

I am still investigating the issue. There appears to be a problem with the caching of the chart data for today. From what I can see, the issue is as follows: when the website is visited at 12:00, the data is loaded up until that time. However, when the website is visited later in the same day, such as at 21:00, the data only shows up until 12:00.

Do you think that could be the problem?

    Kind regards,
    Hessel

Hi Hessel, thanks for your efforts! My website is hosted in the USA, and I use Cloudflare CDN which I assume is also located in USA.

My guess is that my WP timezone is not correctly considered in the plugin? I have checked now at 18:00 and the data is shown until 11:00 – again 7 hours of time difference. See screens attached

In settings, Berlin is set and my current local time is shown correctly.

    Hi @martinstoetzel,

I have made a fix for this issue. Can you download this from our Github and let us know if this solves the issue? You can download the ZIP here: https://github.com/Really-Simple-Plugins/burst/tree/Timezone-issue-fix

If you don’t see an immediate change, you can add ‘&burst_clear_cache’ to the URL. For example: https://burst-statistics.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=burst#statistics&burst_clear_cache

After adding that to the URL, hit refresh, remove the parameter and refresh again.

Please let me know if this solves your issue.

    Kind regards,
    Hessel

    Hi Hessel, happy new year.

I have done exactly as you described, but even with the ‘fix-timezone-issue’ commit installed in my WP, I still don’t see data for the last hours.

Currently at 8:40 it shows the latest data for 2:00.

I have looked into the WP database and the latest entry is with time = 1672558876 (now at 8:42). Maybe this helps, I don’t know how time is stored as a number.

    Hello @martinstoetzel,

Thank you and I wish you a happy new year as well!

I apologize that our previous suggestion did not resolve the issue. Could you please install this branch: https://github.com/Really-Simple-Plugins/burst/tree/Timezone-issue-fix and go to Burst. To open the console, right-click on the page and select “Inspect” or use the Ctrl + Shift + J (Windows) or Command + Option + J (Mac) shortcut. Then, copy the logs for us by clicking on the “Console” tab and selecting one block of logs.

The logs show how the time & timezone is set on the server, WP and on your device. This way we can hopefully see if there is a mismatch.

    Thank you for your patience.

    Kind regards,
    Hessel

    Hi @martinstoetzel,

Just wanted to check if you had a chance to install the branch and get the console log info yet? No worries if you haven’t had a chance, just wanted to follow up in case you forgot.

    Kind regards,
    Hessel
