I installed a theme called cleanPRESS and after a bit of a struggle to get article list thumbnails to generate I learned from the theme developer that I could add a custom field called thumb and put in images/imagename.jpg then timthumb.php would correctly generate the thumbnails. This worked until my host migrated me to a new server (on webhost4life IIS ). I tested that GD works on the site by using a little test script but I can’t get the timthumb to work no matter what path’s I use as a parameter.

Another question: WebHost4Life was pretty good over the past 6 years but they’ve been bought by EIG and I’m not sure I like the new company. I originally chose them because I was running an ASP based site but I’ve since replaced that with WordPress. I’m thinking of moving to a webhost that specializes in WordPress. I need to be able to run plugins (dean’s code formatter). I’m very interested if anyone could share their experience here. When I search for webhosting references online it’s difficult to separate the spam from real reviews.

I carefully compared the site with a backup and determined that no script was different and all folders and permissions are correct. I can only conclude that there is something wrong with the host.

I decided to go with https://www.rochen.com. They specialize in open source CMS. I decided the best way to find a replacement was to start on the 25th page of google search results for “WordPress hosting” because the first 10 pages were obvious spam.
