TinyMCE — no B or I buttons!

Hi, this is my first post. I’m using Mac OSX, Firefox 1.5, WordPress 2.0 (spanish version).
I’ve been building a site (locally) with WP for a while now, no problems and loving it, but recently found that the Bold and Italic formatting buttons have disappeared from the row of buttons in the rich text editor in WP 2.0 (using the spanish version).
— cannot recall exactly when they disappeared, since I was busy working with the theme and templates, and had already created a few dummy articles with unformatted content.

Now, the first button is strikeout, and not having these buttons will render WP2 unusable for my various content editors (all zero knowledge of HTML), thus render the entire blog unusable.
I have done a new, clean install of WP but to no avail, have no plugins installed in this new clean install, and I’m working straight from the standard theme.
I would greatly appreciate any advice, help or suggestions..!!!
