TESTED: TinyMCE span bug in the bullets on Chrome & Safari
-
Hello Friends,
I think I may have found some clues to the mysterious junk code inserted by TinyMCE in WordPress editor (yes, this is REAL, despite the closing of other threads on this topic).
I have systematically tested it and found repeatable results. Please read the test results before you decide to shut this thread down as well.
Browsers tested on Windows 7 (I don’t have a Mac. Do you? Can you test it for us?):
- Chrome 13.0.782.220 m
- Firefox 6.0.2
- IE 9.0.9112.16421
- Safari 5.1 (7534.50)
The Problem: When typing into the WP Visual editor, with absolutely no copy paste from anything else, it is possible to get junk span codes inserted into your entries.
Sample of WP Editor HTML view test:
Now we are testing the theory <ul> <li>make a bullet</li> <li>make a second bullet</li> </ul> <h3><span style="font-size: small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 24px;">Heading 3</span></span></h3> keep moving look at the html
What else I did that you cannot see:
After “Make a second bullet” I did this:- press return again to remove a bullet
- as the VERY NEXT STEP, Type text and then assign it as a Heading 3
The Clues:
It happens in:- Chrome
- Safari
It does not happen in:
- IE
- Firefox
The span tags appear in the Path at the bottom of the Visual editor AS SOON AS I press return and leave the list of bullets.
Where does this leave us?
Since this only happens in some browsers, as a user, I don’t see what I can do about this, except only use certain browsers. This is a drag, obviously. Why? Getting FF to work well on Win 7 is not easy. That leaves me with IE. Doable, but not my favorite.
Is there a way that the FF community can make this issue known to Safari and Chrome developers?
If there’s something more I can do as a user, please let me know.
Thanks for considering this.
Rosemary
