Can you have a look at the link and let me know what I am doing wrong?

I was hoping the title would appear in the text, all I see is “n of n”

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I am afraid you are not correct

    see https://payments.ebps.org.uk/slb/

Thesre are screen grabs of the attachment details from the media library

It is not the “title” SLB is looking for but the “caption”

I look forward to your reply…

The screenshots you provided confirm what was explained in my previous response. In case there is any confusion, the title and caption fields are both checked for the WordPress auto-generated title for historical reasons.

As previously noted, the solutions are to either update the title/caption metadata or enable the setting to allow default titles in the lightbox.

If you are still experiencing an issue after implementing an above-noted solution, please provide an updated link with the “fan2” image’s caption changed to something else (e.g. “fan”), and I would be glad to take another look.

You seem not to understand the problem that I am describing to you, instead you are giving me an explanation for a different problem

I am happy for SLB to display the caption. In both the images I have shown you there is a caption and not a title. This problem is not about the title

In the link that I have given you previously, you will see 2 images which are screen grabs of the attachment page from the media library

    Neither have a title

The first one has a caption “fan2” i.e. one word

The second has the caption “fan .” i.e. 2 words or something with a space character in it

When you click on the first image to bring up the lighbox effect, you will see, at the bottom of the screen, for the first image:

    “item 1 of 2”

    and for the second image

    “fan-. item 2 of 2”

So you can clearly see, that the caption is not displayed for the first image but is for the second. SLB seems to have put a “-” character where the space character was

Does this make it clearer for you?

Hmm, it sounds like you are getting confused between the metadata for the original images and the screenshots of the attachment details for those images. Here is the metadata reported from your site’s media library to clear up any confusion:

    Screenshots

    Reference: https://payments.ebps.org.uk/slb/

    1. File: fsan2.jpg
    • Title: fsan2
    • Caption: (empty)
    • Lightbox title: (blank)
      • Reason: “Enable default title” option is disabled.

    2. File: fan-.jpg"

    • Title: fan-.
    • Caption: (empty)
      • Lightbox title: fan-.

    Original images

    1. File: fan2.jpeg

    2. File: fan.jpeg

As you can see, SLB displays the captions/titles exactly as they are. No additional characters are added.

Also as noted above, the only images with a blank lightbox title are those that contain a default title/caption auto-generated by WordPress. As previously-noted, customizing the title/caption in the media library or enabling the “Enable default title” option in SLB’s settings will allow a lightbox title to be displayed for these images.

It also sounds like you may be getting confused between the terminology being used, as WordPress’ media library contains Caption and Title fields, and SLB also contains a Title block.

To avoid any further confusion, please note that SLB’s Title block selects a value to display in the lightbox from multiple metadata fields, including the media library’s Caption and Title fields.

See SLB’s documentation on title precedence for more details on how metadata fields are selected and displayed in the lightbox.

If anything remains unclear, or if you are experiencing behavior different than noted above, please take the following steps:

    1. Ensure that you are logged out of your site when viewing the site – avoids any differences in behavior/caching/etc. between visitors and logged-in users.
    2. Enable the “Enable default title” option in SLB’s settings.
    3. Provide a link that exhibits the issue you are experiencing.
    4. Provide details on the issue you are experiencing.

    Thanks.

How do you explain this: https://payments.ebps.org.uk/slb/

There is only one image, if you mouse over it you will see the caption is “fan2”, but if you click on it, there is no lightbox caption displayed

This has been explained multiple times already.

Please follow the instructions in my previous reply so that your issue can be further evaluated.

If you are having trouble following the instructions, please provide details on which of the 4 steps is unclear.

    Thanks.

Please explain to me one last time, why does the caption not show when there is one? I think the reason is (in this case) that it is only one word.

I realise that you think you have explained but your explanations do not correspond to the facts

    Caption “fan2”

    Lightbox mouseover caption “fan2”

    Lighbox mouse click caption (blank)

Alternatively – can you explain this to me

This is from your text above – what is the difference between fan2 and fan

They both have no title but a caption but one shows the caption and one does not – you have not explained why and I cannot see any difference in your data below

Enable default title” option is?globally disabled. It is not disabled for one page and not the other? Anyay even if it was, I am not trying to show the title. I do not want to show the title. I want to show the caption

Unfortunately, there’s nothing further I can assist without the details requested in my earlier response.
