'title' Tag for main images in posts

    Hi,

    I want to enter the title and alt tags for all of my images. For my featured images of each post, I find the option to add the title.
    These are the options that I have before entering the main image of my post:

    Title / Caption / Alternative Text / Description

    With the alternative text I can add the ‘alt’ tag but none of the other three work for the ‘title’ tag.

    This picture does not appear in the post editor because this image appears not only in the post but in other places in the website, like frontpage, etc, so I can not add the alt and title tags manually as I do with other images.

    Do you know any solution for this?

  • Why do you need a custom alt tag for these images? The image’s title is used by default.

    Hi esmi,

    I was told that I have to add ‘alt’ and ‘title’ tags to all my images to improve my SEO.

    When I inspect it with firebug I see that they have only the ‘alt’ tag and all these images are in my frontpage showing the first lines of each of my articles.

    Alt & title tags are not meant to be used for SEO purposes. The former especially is needed when the image is not available or when the visitor is a non-graphical browser because of a sight impairment. If you start using these tags to keyword stuff, then Google will mark you down as a result.

    Thank you very much for the info.

    Actually I am cleaning a bit my content because without knowing it I was ‘stuffing’

    This is not the purpose. I want to add ‘alt’ and ‘title’ tags to all my pictures because otherwise google can penalize you. At least I have heard this.

    And this ones are in my frontpage, showing a brief of my articles

    I’m sorry but what you have heard is incorrect. WordPress creates appropriate alt tags on all images by default. Title tags are also added when appropriate.

    They used to a couple of major versions ago but they were removed after I posting a Trac ticket highlighting that this would create unwanted noise for screenreader users.

    The rules are changing so quick that sometimes is difficult to know what is correct.

    Hi again,

    I have try to verify my website and I got 52 errors after adding the meta tags. Before that I had just 1.

    I think I did something wrong. Could you take a quick look please? Just in case the problem is easy to solve.

    This are the meta tags I added:

    I added them in heather.php after:
