    Yoast SEO version 3.3.1

Pages and Post Title Template setup using defaults.
… page title, separator, site title
    %%title%% %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%

Pages titles are published with double site names in the page title.
… page title, separator, site title, site title.

    I haven’t figured out a workaround yet.

    Thanks

In WordPress 4.1 and newer, your theme should support the Title Tag core feature.

If your theme does not support this, please try the fallback suggestions found here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/the-seo-title-output-for-the-plugin-doesnt-work-as-expected/

    Hi,

    Thanks for the quick response!
The Theme is up to date (Last Update 18 April 16), supports WP 4.5 and includes the add_theme_support( 'title-tag' ); in the themes functions.php

It had been working correctly, but I just noticed the issue when running a site audit for a future update. The titles had been displaying correctly a few months back.

I have purged all servers cache and updated the permalinks several limes( as I was adjusting the the sites structure after reading Yoast’s Optimize Your WordPress site). ??

    Any other thoughts or ideas?
    Thanks

So I’ve tried a few things and found a workaround by removing the the Site Title in the WordPress dashboard’s general settings.

It seems that SEO isn’t able to completely take over from the the WP General settings so that SEO and the WP end up adding into the rendered Title…. When I remove the Site Title in the WordPress General Settings then, the titles display correctly.

Before finding this work around I had also tried toggling SEO on and off.
    Removing
    %%title%% %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%
completely from the Pages and Post Title Templates so the settings were blank.

Purged the cache in between changes..etc

It sounds like something on your site is also writing to the title tag. A conflict check will help identify what is adding the duplicate name. If you are unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we wrote a small guide that will walk you through the steps. You can find it here: How To Check For Plugin Conflicts

Sorry I missed the reply somehow.

Thanks for the link. It looks like it is something with my child theme.
I turned all the plugins off except Yoast and under the child the problem persisted. I switched the Parent Theme and all was fixed…

Don’t know what is going on with the child theme…

    Bump!
I just came here with the same problem! My website name appears twice everywhere which is annoying. My theme is not supported any longer but I still wanna use it as long as possible, just upped quite a bit of content. Soooo, is there ANY other workaround to stop the title from showing twice? Hope someone can help!

Yay, the theme header.php rewrite did the trick! Thanks!

    Hi silentrocco,

What is the theme header.php rewrite trick?
I’d like to give that a try.

    Bingo!

Just saw that the the fallback suggestions were updated with the header.php rewrite.
Works perfectly with my child theme.

Thanks silentrocco for the heads up on the header.php rewrite and amboutwe etal at Yoast for updating the fallback suggestions.
