    This is for the entire site but I have linked one example.

    My manually written meta titles and meta descriptions are being ignored, so where I’ve written:

    Fixed Installations | Asset Integrity Services | EM&I

    In the page overview it says:

    Fixed Installations | EM&I

    And it’s actually outputting:

    Fixed Installations | EM&I | EM&I

    I’ve updated WordPress and all plugins to the latest version.

    This issue only occurred yesterday after updating Yoast.

    I know that in the source code it has “Fixed Installations | EM&I | EM&I”

    But that is not what I have specified in Yoast. I have screenshots to illustrate this if necessary.

    To be clear as well, the issue isn’t Google ignoring / changing my meta titles, its that WordPress appears to be doing so.

    We are sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with the title. To understand the issue better, please share the relevant screenshots here with us. How to include screenshots or videos?

    Thanks for sharing the relevant screenshots with us. We now understand the issue better.

    We looked at the relevant page and see that Yoast SEO is outputting the following title:

    <title>Fixed Installations | EM&I | EM&I</title>

    We know that you have defined the Fixed Installations | Asset Integrity Services | EM&I SEO title on the relevant page using the Yoast SEO plugin but it doesn’t match with what’s being outputted in the page source code and as well as with the page overview which is very odd.

    This issue typically occurs when Yoast SEO has the old data stores in the Indexables tables and migrations. To clear the cache, you’ll need to reset the Yoast SEO Indexables tables and migrations by following the steps given below:

    • Install and activate Yoast Test Helper plugin;
    • Go to Tools → Yoast Test → Yoast SEO → Reset indexables tables & migrations options to reset it;
    • Run SEO data optimization from the SEO → Tools page.

    So, can you please confirm whether the issue persists after performing the above steps?

    Hello,

    Thank you so much, this has fixed the main issue, however WordPress is still appending the site title to the custom meta titles – if you can help with that issue as well that would be great but I will also Google it.

    Great, we are glad to hear the major issue is now resolved ?? However, we are quite not sure what you mean by “WordPress is still appending the site title to the custom meta titles.” Can you please elaborate more on it a bit so that we can understand it better and offer the best possible solutions for you?

    We look forward to hearing from you.

    HI, yes of course, on some titles it is writing:

    FPSOs | Floating Production Integrity Services | EM&I | EM&I

    The second sitename is being added automatically.

    That’s most likely because your theme has no implementation of the add_theme_support( 'title-tag' ); hook. If you see the force rewrite title option in the SEO → Search Appearance → General (tab), please enable it and that shall fix the issue.

    If the issue persists, you’ll need to implement the relevant title hook in the theme and that shall fix the issue for you. You can find further information about this here https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Title_Tag.
