I’m moving this from the other topic ’cause since y’all provide the libraries but don’t actually support Fancybox I’m not sure if its a major Bozo NO-NO to ask about it…
BUT, I have to have titles on my detail images. I figured EVERYBODY would want titles on their detail images so people looking at them would be able to identify the image. Am I wrong?

In any case, I found a FOUR-YEAR-OLD topic in the nextgen gallery support forum that explained HOW to get the title on the image. I did it on my local PC and it worked… Go into gallery-caption.php, change description to alttext, and voila, TITLES…….
I did the same thing today on the web server. Same version. Same file. Same change. I CHECKED. It’s been changed. NO TITLES…
Is there SOMETHING I have to do to get the web server to USE the gallery-caption.php file I changed or does it just “know” to recompile or rebuild or whatever? And if there IS something, can you tell me how to make it use the changed file? ‘Cause if I HAD any hair left it’d be gone at this point…

@skyykorat – Using a template versus changing the Lightbox Effect’s display are two different functions.

To use the “captions” template, you just need to set it for the specific display.

If you are using the IGW (“green button”) in the TinyMCE editor’s visual tab to insert the display then click on the preview image to re-open the modal window, open the customizations accordion panel and choose the template (“captions”) from the drop-down selector.

If you are using a shortcode, you will need to add the template=caption parameter.

If you want all Basic Thumbnail displays to use this template going forward then you can set that under Gallery > Gallery Settings > NextGEN Basic Thumbnails.

Choosing a different template will not affect the Lightbox library you are using to display any additional details although different Lightbox Effects have different displays … you might consider changing to a different one to see if that suits you better.

    Thanks!

Every time I start to think I’m getting an handle on this, I find out just how LITTLE I actually know…

“Using a template versus changing the Lightbox Effect’s display are two different functions.”
I don’t THINK I’m using a template. All I did on my local PC was change a line in a php file. Should I be using some kind of template – “Captions”, for example? Is that how I SHOULD be getting titles on the images in the lightbox?

“If you are using the IGW (“green button”) in the TinyMCE editor’s visual tab “
I’m going to have to go find what this even is. I’ve never heard of TinyMCE and I have no idea what the “green button” is.

“If you are using a shortcode, you will need to add the template=caption parameter.”
Here is the shortcode or whatever the thing is that defines the gallery on my LOCAL PC: <img class=”ngg_displayed_gallery mceItem” src=”https://localhost/nextgen-attach_to_post/preview/id–2821&#8243; alt=”” data-mce-placeholder=”1″ />

    and here’s the one from the server: <img class=”ngg_displayed_gallery mceItem” src=”https://www.<nnn&gt;.com/wordpress/index.php/nextgen-attach_to_post/preview/id–263″ alt=”” data-mce-placeholder=”1″ />

Other than where it find the stuff, they look the same to me. On the local PC I have titles. On the web server, I don’t.

If by displays you’re talking about he “FancyBox, Shutter, etc”, I tried all the ones that were there. The Fancybox seems like it would be the easiest for visitors to use.

But, am I missing something obvious to everyone else… It works on my PC, doesn’t give me titles on the server. Is there something I have to DO on the server so it’ll show the title? I GET the description below the image, AND under the thumbnail, but doesn’t that mean the php file I changed isn’t being used? Or is there something else?

I”ll go look at the captions template if I can figure out where and how I turn it on.

@skyykorat – From your description (since you referenced the <img> placeholder) you are using the IGW (“green button”). This is located in the TinyMCE editor which is where you write the content for your pages and posts in a standard WordPress installation.

Given you have two different instances of WordPress you are working with I would suggest concentrating on one to get it to work correctly then recreating the settings/changes/modifications on the other so the instances mimic each other.

Also from your description, you appear to be using a “template” on your local instance (the one on your PC) but not using the same template on your remote instance (your website installation). Locate the template you are using (look at the customization accordion panel of the display you have posted in your local instance by clicking on its preview image) to see which template, if any, are being used … I suspect it will be the gallery-captions.php (aka “captions”) template. Locate that and copy it into the same place on your web site in its NextGEN Gallery installation and you should be set.

    Thanks!

AH… I THINK the light just went on… The “green button” you were talking about is the thing on the PAGE that has me answer questions and sticks a gallery on the page, right? That’s EXACTLY how I do it on BOTH systems…

I even went out and INSTALLED TinyMCE thinking it would do some kind of magical editing…

OK, I THINK I also understand the “template” thing now. In the imagebrowser settings I have imagebrowser-gallery.php set now. I THINK that will make SOMETHING show up.
<heavy sigh>As I said earlier, every time I THINK I’m starting to get the hang of this I find out just how much I DON’T KNOW!!!!!!

    Thanks for the help!

@skyykorat – There is no reason to “install” TinyMCE as it is the default editor you use in WordPress.

As to the display type, the ImageBrowser default template should be showing any captions (read: description) that might be with the images … unless you are customizing the ImageBrowser “gallery” template.
