TLS and STARTTLS request

    I’ve said this before, but thanks for creating this. This one plugin is one of the few to actually change the entire landscape of the WordPress world in terms of usability (that was vitally missing until Postman came along).

    One request though:

    There are some hosts (e.g. Siteground) that will send SMTP over 587 with authentication… BUT they don’t use/recognize STARTTLS, so the only option that works is “No Security/encryption”. But they do support just plain TLS over port 587. So… could Postman have the option to use TLS in addition to STARTTLS? Or did you intentionally decide to not offer that for some well-thought-out reason? If so, no problem, but I wanted to ask as I think it would be a nice option to have. But, if that is a dumb idea for some reason just let me know. I won’t be offended. ?? Thanks for the amazing plugin!

    Nevermind. “SMTPS” is TLS, I just didn’t see it for some reason…

    SMTPS is encryption at the network level.
    STARTTLS (or Opportunistic TLS) is encryption at the application level.

    Where ‘encryption‘ is either the older Secure Socket Layer (SSL) or the newer Transport Layer Security (TLS).
