• Hi, I’m new to using WordPress and was thinking of placing it as a subdomain of main site, because I want it to be distinct from the main site…(mainly because the main site is currently in construction AND because I will want my blog to be anonymous). Is anyone out there placing their blogs at subdomain level (ie. blog.yourdomain.com)?

  • I’m not. I think it’s just a personal preference. I don’t understand how making the blog appear in the subdomain will make it anonymous, though.

In your case, I think you should use the subdomain to make it stand out from the rest of the site. One reason I’m currently not using subdomains is because my host said that special configurations would be needed, and they said that it would be a hassle.

I set up my blog on a subdomain because I use my domain (or top level site) for other stuff. If I had had no plans beyond blogging at the time, I might have just dropped WordPress into the main web domain.

This is several years back, and these days one can better mesh site content and blogging with a tool like WordPress. It’s possible my decision would be different if I was making it now.

Anyway, it really depends on what you’re planning for your domain/site as a whole.
