Dear Easy Table of Contents Support Team,

We recently encountered significant issues following the latest update of your plugin. Specifically, the introduction of a new shortcode [ez-toc-widget-sticky] and the deprecation of the previous [toc] and [ez-toc] shortcodes have disrupted our website’s functionality. This change has overridden our manual settings with the global default, which displays the widgets in arbitrary locations, instead of where we put them in the first place, adversely affecting several of our web pages.

Additionally, attempts to implement the new shortcode have resulted in critical errors, rendering important pages inaccessible. This includes critical resource pages on our websites, which are now causing a “Fatal error: Allowed memory size exhausted” message.

We have temporarily resolved the issue by deactivating the plugin, reverting the shortcode to [ez-toc], and reactivating the plugin. However, this is a temporary fix, and we urgently need a permanent solution to ensure the stability and reliability of our websites.

We ask for your prompt assistance to:

    1. Address the critical error caused by the new shortcode implementation.
    2. Provide a clear and reliable migration path for websites using the old shortcodes to adapt without disruption.
    3. Ensure such updates undergo thorough testing to prevent similar issues in the future.

Your swift response and action on this matter are crucial for us to maintain the quality and functionality of our service to our users. Thank you in advance for your support

    Best regards,

    Roman

    1. Fatal Error with [ez-toc-widget-sticky] Shortcode: Upon implementing the new [ez-toc-widget-sticky] shortcode to replace the original [ez-toc], my site experiences a fatal error that prevents the page from loading. Additionally, while editing the page in “edit mode” and attempting to save the change from [ez-toc] to [ez-toc-widget-sticky], I receive an “Updating failed.” error message. This issue is critical as it directly impacts the usability and accessibility of the content on the page.
    2. Plugin Conflict with “Internal Link Juicer (Pro)”: After updating to the latest version of “Internal Link Juicer (Pro)” (version 2.23.6), I’ve noticed a conflict that affects the display and functionality of table of contents on my site. Specifically, the [toc] and [ez-toc] shortcodes that we’ve implemented across all pages are not functioning as expected, with table of contents appearing in arbitrary positions on the page. Temporarily reverting to an older version of the plugin (“Internal Link Juicer (Pro)” version 2.23.4) seems to mitigate the issue, suggesting a compatibility problem with the latest version.

Given these challenges, I am seeking your assistance to:

    • Understand the cause of the fatal error with the [ez-toc-widget-sticky] shortcode and find a resolution.
    • Address the compatibility issue between the “Internal Link Juicer (Pro)” plugin version 2.23.6 and the shortcode functionality on my site.

Hi, thank you so much for sharing all the information. We’ve raised a GitHub ticket regarding this concern, and it will be addressed in the upcoming update.

    Here is the ticket: https://github.com/ahmedkaludi/Easy-Table-of-Contents/issues/704

Also, you said about the introduction of the new shortcode [ez-toc-widget-sticky] and the supposed deprecation of the previous [toc] and [ez-toc] shortcodes, there seems to be a misunderstanding. These shortcodes are still a crucial part of our Easy TOC plugin and haven’t been deprecated. In fact, in the recent update, we’ve introduced some new shortcodes to enhance the functionality of our plugin, allowing users to explore many new features.

The best way to utilize the [ez-toc-widget-sticky] shortcode is by adding it through the sidebar:

    1. Go to the ‘Appearance’ section.
    2. Click on ‘Widgets.’
    3. Add the shortcode to the sidebar and save it.

    Refer to this screenshot: https://paste.pics/QE4EV

This method ensures optimal usage of the shortcode. Please give it a try and let us know if you have any further concerns.

Thank you for opening a ticket for the IT! We appreciate that.

With respect to “These shortcodes are still a crucial part of our Easy TOC plugin and haven’t been deprecated.”, it is of vital importance that the manually seeded [toc] and [ez-toc] remain enhanced in the future, without being overwritten by automatic settings. The newly arised conflict with “Internal Link Juicer (Pro) prevents that.

We checked on our end, but no issues with the shortcode along with this https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/internal-links/ plugin were found. Kindly confirm once, and if you still face the same issue, kindly share the URL along with a short video showing how you are adding the shortcode in your post.
