    Today, WC sent out about 200 emails “thanks for shopping with us”, “We have finished processing your order” related to orders from 2015. Our mailserver was sending at its maximum rate for about 5 minutes.

    Our plugins upgrade twice a day (we run a cron script), and nowhere near the time of this event so I don’t think it was a software upgrade side-effect.

    I don’t really know where to look for a cause. Quite bizzare.

    I looked a bit closer and found:

    Order status changed by bulk edit: Order status changed from Processing to Completed.

    February 24, 2021 at 3:59 pm by {user name} Delete note

    Order status changed from Pending Payment to Processing.

    November 1, 2015 at 3:28 pm Delete note

    Payment was made and the order went to Processing. These are all downloads, and we did fix it subsequently so orders were marked as complete automatically. The admin user decided to mark them all as Completed, which triggered the emails.

    Did you by any chance make any recent changes that could have triggered this (e.g import products from that period or perform any database related changes)?

    Please navigate to WooCommerce > Staus > Logs and check if there are recent errors in the dropdown labelled “fatal_errr”?
