• Wordpress plugin users searching for a TOKEN to set up YOURLS may have a little trouble.

From the research I have done I am guessing the “TOOLS” page is in the stand alone manual .php version of this neat sounding plugin. I’ve searched high and low and there simply is no “TOOLS” (tools.php or .css or .js) page on my server.

2 years and 1 month ago this was posted: “Log into your YOURLs admin and click “tools” in the top left corner. It is a little past halfway down the page.”

Where is the “TOKEN” or the “API”?

    HELP! PLEASE!

re; This can be found on the tools page in your YOURLS installation.

  • Hey @ohsnap

For your domain where you have the YOURLS software installed (assuming that it’s installed in the root of that domain), you can go to hxxps://yourdomain.com/admin/tools.php (you’ll have to sign in if you aren’t already signed in, of course), look for the section labeled: “Secure passwordless API call”.

The second paragraph in that section should begin with:

    Your secret signature token:

…and your token will be the next thing on that line.

    Hope this helps!

(If you don’t have your own instance of the YOURLS software installed, that’s definitely where you’ll want to start.)

I have wordpress in a subdomain of the website. I have the YOURLS software installed in …/wp-content/plugins/better-yourls. The file …/wp-admin/tools does not include the section described in the previous post. Where can I find the necessary token?

@daveburtonwilliams do you have the software from yourls.org installed as well?

I have the YOURLS software installed in …/wp-content/plugins/better-yourls.

I think there may be a bit of confusion. The WordPress plugin you’re referring to is simply a connector between WordPress and the YOURLS software. You’ll need to download and install an instance of the YOURLS system to handle the URL shortening. Then the plugin you’ve got installed will connect to that instance.

Please visit https://yourls.org/ for details about downloading and installing YOURLS.

    I hope this is helpful!

I use HostPapa as web host. The control panel offers Softaculous, but Softaculous doen’t offer YOURLS.
Does this mean that the web host doesn’t support or isn’t compatible with YOURLS?

Not necessarily. The requirements for YOURLS are very similar to WordPress itself. If it supports PHP and MySQL, there should be no problem running the software on your host.
