Tons of wasted space in header and footer?

  • As you can see from the screenshot here the top of the page is tons of wasted space… why?

    I turned off the overlay in the customizer but there is still a weird overlay bar. I made it black so you would see what I mean.

    I also want that huge ad gone. is it possible to have the page look more like THIS? it’s much better design to not waste so much space.

    And then a different question – can the footer be fixed? why the heck is my menu showing down there when i didnt add a menu down there? see picture –
