To continue constant updates of the plugin and to be able to offer the support we do, do you think its unreasonable to collect some money to support ourselves? The sale of those are what funds the continued development and support of Directorist. This is the same model in which many popular plugins (WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, Gravity Forms etc.) support themselves.

We have been working on the core plugin dedicatedly for more than a year and spent countless hours. We could have released the entire plugin as a paid one on a popular marketplace or we might work for clients instead of developing it which would be apparently more profitable. If you research a bit, you will realize that we sell the extensions more cheaply compared to others. But, we can understand that it may not seem cheap to everyone. We have a solution for it which is, we give our premium products freely if anyone contacts us informing that he/she can’t afford. You could have contacted us before leaving a review and we would definitely give the extensions you needed.

Please reconsider your star rating based on your experience with the plugin, not basing it on that you might have had to purchase a commercial addon in order to gain a feature you needed. And you can’t compare a theme with a plugin for many reasons.

This isn’t Amazon, eBay or anything like that. The reviews here are feedback only. Again, this isn’t useful feedback but it is related to your plugin here. Users do read these reviews and they can make up their own mind.

Its really unfair to say that its a 1-star plugin just based on that single fact alone.

I get that. But you upsell on your plugin page and the paid extensions are very prominent.

When you do that, you invite these reviews. So reviews like this is due to your upsell and you need to accept that.

To be honest the price is what stands out. but not the only reason why I uninstall your plugin. Anyway I have better things to do. So I’ll give you a 4 start and finish this here. all the best with your project.
