• Sadly it’s just to limited in the free version. Even a calendar is missing and for just personal use it’s just too pricey and I dont support paying every year. A one time fee would be acceptable

    Hi @thelittlegreenman

I’m sorry to hear your disappointment.

In terms of the business model, UpStream uses the same model as almost every other plugin developer in WordPress. I haven’t seen one-time fees for WordPress software in many years. There are a lot of good posts available about why developers choose annual subscriptions, but the short version is that it’s almost impossible to maintain good software on one-time fees. Unfortunately, your suggestion is a recipe for going out of business.

In terms of the price for extra features, they start at under $50. Is that really an unacceptably high cost?

For these reasons, please consider changing your review.

Well a lot of other software developers manage to run it with one-time fees.

In terms of the price for extra features, they start at under $50. Is that really an unacceptably high cost?
Yes, if it’s just for such basic features and you had to pay that EVERY year. I invested now some time to discover the plugin and errors are occuring frequently. It’s a fresh wp installation.

For you, and for others who may have the same question in the future, we wrote an explanation of why we use recurring subscriptions: https://upstreamplugin.com/faq/

We also included links to the thinking of other WordPress developers on this topic.
