Too Many MySQL Connections

    My site was down due to a high number of MySQL connections. This happened just shortly after I updated to the latest Broken Link Checker 1.11.13 (which I didn’t realize the correlation until just now). My host cleared all MySQL connections, and that fixed the issue. They also recommended that I run an optimization plugin. I enabled the WP-Optimize plugin to weekly optimize the database. My host’s support also said:

    “If you talk to the developer [of Broken Link Checker], feel free to mention that there was a lot of pending ‘delete’ queries coming from the Broken Link Checker plugin. Let me add that on our shared hosting the max MySQL connection number is 30. On this hosting plan, it cannot be increased so the best way is to keep the database optimized and avoid such a number of simultaneous MySQL connections and pending queries. The developer should be able to help with this.”

    Would you mind looking into this?

    The other possible issue could have been another plugin I have installed called “WP Crontrol”. Yes, spelled C-R-O-N. It allows modification of scheduling of time-based tasks. I also disabled this plugin temporarily to see if the issue comes back or not.

    Thank you for your feedback and we’re sorry you’re facing this inconvenience.
    We’re aware of the plugin making expensive queries and we’re trying to fix that on the upcoming updates.
    Unfortunately we don’t have any ETAs and this is going to be a gradual change but the future updates will certainly look to optimize this.

    @demssite Are you experiencing issues on your 2 sites while using version 1.11.14?

    Yessss, yesterday we had to kill the db update process and I have deactivated the plugin until we find a solution

    Dang. I was hoping it would be fixed. What I did was downgrade to version 1.11.2. That version works with WP 5.5.1. Broken Link Checker 1.11.3 is the version where this issue originated.

    We have sent a ping to the devs to check the status of the same and we would keep you updated of the same. Just so you know, we are still working on fixing up a bunch of issues and bring in many more new features to the plugin.

    I would not be able to promise you an ETA about it but yes the Broken Link checker team is working hard on this and we would try and bring an update on it asap.

    About the first, I would be here with an update once I hear back from the team.

    Until the fix is released, I’m afraid that workaround would be to, indeed, roll-back to older version for temporarily. As suggested earlier, the 1.11.2 should be fine.
