• Just wondering why there would be such a big discrepancy between our Bit.ly clicks from social media, Google Analytics and the Top 10 metrics for our posts? GA and Bit.ly tend to be pretty close but Top 10 is typically showing only about 15% of their totals. I saw a previous question on this topic and you had suggested switching to “Query variable based” tracking, but we were already set with that. One current article is showing between 800-900 pageviews in GA, about 800 clicks on Bit.ly but only 197 at the bottom of the admin area for the post. BTW, we are only set to track posts, not pages.

Would appreciate any feedback or suggestions. The plugin is great (users love the front-end widget) so it would be nice if we could figure out what we’re doing wrong and utilize the metrics to their fullest.

    Thanks!

I just checked my GA stats vs. what Top 10 records. And I’m not sure exactly why but I have a similar discrepancy. Interestingly, I also have Jetpack installed on this site and the hits between JetPack and Top 10 are very close while GA is massively higher (around 50%)

Are you comfortable testing out a different tracker which is very much in beta right now: https://github.com/WebberZone/top-10-fast-tracker although I’m not 100% sure this will fix it without having an idea how GA or Bitly records this. It could be something rather simple as the infrastructure and sampling algorithms they use vs absolute tracking Top 10 does

Happy to test it out, just let me know if there is anything special to do for install and/or settings that will give you the best feedback. Really appreciate your input!

You’ll need to download the master from the Github repo. Double check that this sits within the folder and if so, just upload it to you Plugins > Add new and activate.

Once done, you go to settings and select the Fast tracker option in tracker settings.

I’m actually confused by Google Analytics and even Bitly now because Top 10 and Jetpack give fairly close results which are real hits but wondering if anything is getting missed out for some reason.
