• Greetings,

I’m working on a ‘sandbox’ site to find the right combination of plugins for file sharing, social networking, and event management. While using the plugin ‘Calendarize It,’ I couldn’t add a date for events. In contacting their support, they suggested I disable all other plugins and see if that helped (usually a good solution). I want to the plugins page, selected all but Calendarize It, and hit the bulk Deactivate.

After waiting a minute or so for the page to refresh, Firefox told me “The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.” When I try accessing the Dashboard in Chrome, it just keeps waiting for a reply (it’s been waiting for about 5 minutes now).

The site still works, and I can see that other plugins have been deactivated (they don’t show up on the home page), and I can still see the black admin bar with drop-down options, but none of them work–they send me back to the server reset error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I want to the plugins page, selected ALL (YES, ALL) but Calendarize It, and hit the bulk Deactivate.

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/ On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

I’m using twenty*, and the problem occurred when I deactivated all but one of my plugins. I just FTP’d in and changed the name of the Calendar plugin folder, and that didn’t work.

I changed the name of the entire plugin folder, and that seems to have fixed it.

Now I’ll have to add the plugins back one at a time and see which is the offending one.

    Thanks!

Yes, that way you can remove the problematic plugin ??

Wow. Now it’s not working again. All my plugins are in a folder/directory named old-plugins, and the only thing in my plugins directory is the index.php with <?php /Silence is golden.

Some of the backend works. When I click on Customize (from the top logged in menu), I am able to customize the theme and save it; I can also change the theme.

If I click on Widgets from the top menu, I get the widget page wp-admin/widgets.php and can change widgets.

But when I try to click on Plugins (from the side menu in the Widgets page, I’m locked out again. Same with clicking on Themes…but if I click on change with Live Preview, it works again.

I have tried a couple different Twenty* themes (just in case one was broken somehow), and I keep getting the same problem ??

I tried Updates to see if I could reinstall WP that way, but again the page does not load.

Should I try uploading the entire WP file structure from a clean copy?

    I’m running WP 4.9.7
