• I have been seeing a 28px top margin added to the html element by wp_head. It seems to be part of the admin shortcut bar added to the front end in 3.1. It is not visible when logged out. Oddly, the actual bar is not showing up at the moment. I am working on a theme on an instance of WordPress using the multisite functionality.

I am sure others are coming across this. Any thoughts?

  • It’s the admin bar. And – yes – various implementations were discussed, tried & tested. The one we have is the final choice for now. You simply have to adjust your designs to deal with it. Or turn it off.

Do you have a link to a prior discussion? I was obviously not using the right search terms. Any idea why the margin would be echoed but the actual bar itself is not showing up?

Not offhand but I raised some issues in the Requests & Feedback forum (I think) against one of the earlier implementations in the beta version that used absolute positioning. So I know that more than 1 CSS method has been tried. I think the one we have is the least invasive in terms of theme design.

Have you disabled the bar on the front end for your profile? Or could something in your theme or a plugin be hiding it?

I don’t think so, but I’ll poke around. Another possibility is that something in the multisite setup is effecting it somehow.

Could be – although I’m no multisite expert. If you still can’t figure it out, try asking over on the Multisite forum.
