I posted three days ago about the problem of Membership/WordPress Roles. I have set up some subscription plans for my site.
“No Subscription” – No Added Perks
“Monthly Rate” – A One Month Subscription with perks.
“Yearly Rate” – A Year Subscription with perks.

The perks added for the paid for subscription includes a forum, a newsletter, and first viewing of content. All of this is setup and ready. The issue at hand is, when I try to give (as admin) a user a subscription, the user still cannot view the forum. This is because the user by the Membership Plugin is classified as a “Contributor” but, through WordPress’s default members column, they stay placed as a “Subscriber” You may say “Well change the default user role to Contributor” but, all this does is then allow the “No Subscription” plan users to view this locked page. I am not sure how to change this or if there’s a step I am missing. I hope this helps and hope I hear back soon. Thank you.

  • Hey there Mulshine,

    Hope you’re well today!

I’m not sure I understand what is the issue here. Access levels are not defined by user capabilities. What they do is allow/restrict access for users that are having those levels added along with restrictions to specific content.

Are you having other plugins in your site that are allowing members to view some parts of your site based on their capabilities? If that is the case did you try changing “New User Default Role” in Settings -> General https://screencast.com/t/asReH5zL5pak?

    Have a great day!

    Please advise,
    Bojan
