Hello. I’m really new at this as you’ll probably notice by my question.

I’m converting an old DISCUS forum board to WordPress.

It is a membership site I’m building. To help, I’ve added WishList Member.

In the original DISCUS board, I had the following setup:

    1. You have topics on the main page. You click the topic name (link) to arrive at either subtopic (links) or actual documents (text).

    2. Only ONE topic from the main page allows members to actually POST. While only members may access any page in this membership, they can only POST under the DISCUSSION TOPIC section. It is common for members to post IMAGES as to what they are talking about.

    3. Most of the material in the forum is in the form of ARTICLES, downloadable PDFs, and links to videos.

This is to be a MEMBERS-ONLY site that requires username/password to view/download or post.

I’m trying to get some concepts straight in my head.

Q: Do I use PAGES to create my TOPIC and SUBTOPIC lists, perhaps using LINKS?

Q: For my DISCUSSION section, would this be a PAGE or POST?

Q: How do you allow members to POST only in the DISCUSSION section and that the rest of the sections are read-only?

I’ve got the Dummmie’s book, but still a bit fuzzy on my setting this up.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

I guess I cannot delete or edit a post already made. So this is an addendum.

EXAMPLE: I have a CATEGORY called FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

I created one post for each question asked/answered.

Since all these POSTS are in the same CATEGORY, they show up one below the next. Not exactly what I wanted.

Instead, when I go to FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS, I would like to see a LIST of the TOPICS answered, allowing the user to ‘click’ on the one they want to open up and read.

Apparently, making each POST belong to the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS category was not the right way to do this. I guess I should create a static page for the category and place a link on it for each separate post?

    Is this right?
    Thanks.
