BTW, I’ve hunted all over and can find no solution, as yet…though I’ve found at least one source that does indicate that all comments/likes via the facebook comments plugins should be being counted/tracked…so unless this is wrong I’m really eager to bridge the gap.

I wish I saw this post earlier as I contacted my sharebar support to find out it is this plugin.

    I have the same issues.

First off, mirroring only works for one instance of the URL. If I repost an old article, it does not mirror.

Second, the mirroring feature is hindering the interaction count (like, shares). If I post an article without a mirror feature or on another page, the interactions count.

Third, The mirror finally started working but doesn’t mirror older posts or new comments made on older posts.

Did you find a solution? Judging from the other support threads, it looks like these guys don’t respond. I might have to look for a new one. Too bad it took me so long to realize.

Well, the documentation for the mirroring feature does note that mirroring only works for newly published articles, so that’s that. (here’s the link, if you didn’t know about it:
    https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/comments)
The notes on mirroring are near the bottom; I recommend searching for ‘mirror’ on the page.

I’ve no solution to the count problem…though, there is one super-imperfect alternative, if you’re not concerned about a 100% accurate count, and simply want to show traffic for your link…

I already knew that if I boosted a post with certain parameters, I’d get a ton of likes…and while it’s a little bit like empty calories, it does make the counter tick up, which, in the short run, was what I needed. So, given this mirroring problem, my solution was to create a new facebook ‘Page’…since it would not be associated with the comments tool, sharing my url there would not be associated with the mirror breakdown…and then i simply boosted that post. I’m not intending to drive traffic to that other page…simply increase the like count of my website post/link…which worked like a charm. So, maybe that option would work for you?

mirroring only works for newly published articles, so that’s that.

I know but that is a real pain and can easily be fixed. I wanted to switch to a different facebook comments plugin but without the mirror of old posts, I would lose them all.

my solution was to create a new facebook ‘Page’

That or I can artificially inflate the counter. However, I get a lot of traffic on my Page and making another seems like unnecessary work. My main concern is does the mirror feature ruin the network effect? Do those likes or comments show on their newsfeed to boost engagement if not recorded?

Facebook developers said it was normal on a previous thread which is untrue as I tested with and without the mirror.

I don’t believe it effects the count on facebook itself–each like/comment should be counted there…it just effects the total count for the url you’re sharing. Not sure if that’s what you’re asking…

Yes, that was what I was asking. If it is not recording in the API, is that comment or like showing on their wall? Who really knows as facebook is ever changing. Also, I know they want pages to pay, so ….

Oh, good news. I opened a ticket among others with Facebook Developers and they now admit it is a bug and are working to correct it. Hopefully sooner than later.

Right on–didn’t think to look for a facebook support stream on this…hopefully that yields some results.
