total lock out

  • “I added a line of code to the functions.php section of the themes editor, not realizing what it would do (I was trying, incorrectly, to add a flavicon–wrong spot). Now my site is completely locked down. I can’t log in to my www.ads-software.com account or my web site–when I try either one, the only message that shows up on the page is as follows:
    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in D:\Hosting\[the number is here]\html\wp-content\themes\default\functions.php on line 37
    Any ideas? I’m not even sure where to begin. I will remove the line of code as soon as I can access my account, but I don’t know how to get back into the account since I seem to have messed up the theme that would show my dashboard.” A previous post

    I am fresh to Word?Press and have a similar problem. My message is:

    How do I use my ftp client, to upload a fresh unedited copy of your current theme’s function.php?
    Where do I get a fresh unedited copy ?

  • do you have some kind of cache plugin…or something like that?

    There is no way a theme should be throwing an error if its totally deleted…..

    I’m not sure where you think your deleting it but the file/theme still exists on your server.

    The only things I loaded on to my site were photos and videos. I did not add any extra themes or plugins. All of the changes I made in an afternoon using WP editor to modify my selected theme.

    After my images and videos were added to the WP media library, I created pages and posted the pics. Then I went into wp editor and made changes to the themes php files. That is the extent of my handiwork as far as I can remember.

    I have now gone into Dream Host and using net2ftp I have deleted Barthelme and now replaced the default theme files.

    Still getting the same error message. Am I doing something wrong?

    I found the problem!!! We have 2 ftp accounts. I was using the wrong one!!
