    Hi

    Website is for Classifieds

    Default language is English

With TP, adding other languages is OK with string translations etc, for all the “static” parts of the website (menus, titles, etc). I mean I do not try to translate the Classifieds themselves that can be written in any language.

I tried to use Google Translation API (no issue for API key, restrictions, etc).

But the behavior is not the one I was expecting for 2 points:

1/ if a classifieds is written in French, there is no translation at all in English of this classifieds: I was expecting that there were some language detection by Google.

2/ for the same classified written in French, for other languages than English, then there is a translation of the classified, but it is quite limited. For example in a given sentence, some words are translated, some are not. Some “easy” words are not translated at all.

I also setup a DeepL API, the behavior is more or less the same.

Point 1/: not detection of a non English classifieds is the more annoying one.

Does it come from the default language setup in TP?

Do you think this kind of setup it too complex for TP and Google/DeepL?

Is there a way to have a solution only for point 1?

    Kind regards
    Thierry

    Hi,

As soon as your default language is English (TP Settings –> General tab), you should have all the content written in this language in order that translations to make sense, because our plugin is a directional translation one.

1 & 2. As soon as the default language is set on English our plugin assumes that all the content is written in this language, thus the automatic engine does the same.
Even though a few words are translated(probably those words are translated because this is how the automatic engine understands to translate them), it’s not the recommended configuration as soon you should have all the content written in the default language set up already in TP Settings.
