I wanted to love Give, really I did. I attempted and failed multiple times to create a basic donate form – but try as i might – the preview was awful. For multiple levels of donations there was but one choice – the default $10 amount I set as a minimum (in preview), there was no drop down menu, radio buttons, static list – nothing. No matter what setting I selected it looked the same. But what it did include was the description (or name) of the levels as buttons: Just names of levels that did not relate to anything.

Then I noticed the default level was checked at the minimum donation amount ($10)…thinking that was the issue I redid the entire form, but this time every level was on default (I could not uncheck it).

When I first began the process I decided $5 was a decent minimum amount, but after creating 9 different other levels, I decided to delete that level (no.1) and start over. Unfortunately, every form I created after that started with the no. 2 level. Because I had deleted the first level (of $5), I never saw the no. 1 level again. Could that have been the problem?

I tried everything. Then I changed my mind about the progress bar/button display – I had set a goal of $1,500 – then I decided not to show it. Despite turning off that option it continued to show up (in preview mode) in every single new form I created. It said, “$0 of $1,500 has been raised.” Great.

There were other issues – mainly layout – it looked positively terrible: the buttons and the type were all bunched up together, on top of each other, not even flush left. The fonts were all wonky – different fonts and sizes all smashed up on top of one another.

That’s when I decided I should just delete the plugin (sorry!), especially (!!) once I noticed it had mysteriously added three pages to my sidebar menu! Here’s the big problem: Even though I deleted the plugin and removed the files (sorry!) – those pages are still there! See for yourself: https://www.poisonedpets.com. What you see are links to three pages in my menu (which I did not create – Give did): they are “Donation Confirmation” and “TRANSACTION FAILED” and “Donation History” on my home page (right below my actual donate page on the menu sidebar (left).

    Help!

    Hi there,

Sorry this got overlooked recently. I appreciate you taking the time to write so much detail regarding your experience with Give. I’ll try to answer your main concerns.

    1) Yes, Give creates pages that it needs in order to provide your donors with a seamless donation experience. But Give does not add them to your sidebar. You most likely have a menu in your sidebar, and you have set that menu to “Automatically add top-level pages” (see here: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Appearance_Menus_Screen). That means any new page that is created as a top-level page will be added into your sidebar. You can easily disable that feature of your menu, and remove the Give pages from your menu by going to “Appearance > Menus”.

    2) Regarding the preview, I really can’t speak to that without seeing your site. But we have over 1000 active installs an no one has reported this as an issue so far. I also cannot duplicate it locally. Are you familiar with our Documentation? Here’s a couple articles that would be useful:
    — Creating Give Forms: https://givewp.com/documentation/core/give-forms/creating-give-forms/
    — Give 101: https://givewp.com/documentation/core/give-101/

I hope that clarifies the issue. If you activate Give again, and still have trouble, reach out here in a new ticket and I’ll respond as quickly as possible (but keep in mind this is a national holiday weekend in the U.S.).

    Thanks!

    It worked! Thanks!

I will have another go at Give – I did read the documentation – however, the problems were so numerous and frusterating, I gave up on Give.

    I didn’t want to, really!

If I was a web dev, or at least a bit smarter, I’m sure I could have figured out the problems…

    *sigh*

    Thanks again!
