Trackback Url Problem in v. 2.1.2, the latest version

I have the latest working version of WordPress and everything I read on the forums, I have tried in order to make the trackback url work but nothing seems to do so. Can anyone give me any idea how to make this work?

Instead of the trackback going to the website I wish it to, it manages to come back to my domain and page when I submit to publish it on my domain instead of going to the link I placed in the trackback url area to send it elsewhere.

Please help because I often write articles and letters as a response to Salon.com. Without the ability to have trackback work, it cannot go back to Salon or ping so I can receive credit for what I wrote listed on their website. To my credit, I have one response already that I placed on the Salon.com website that made the Editor’s Choice and has the star with it! I would like the opportunity to earn more of those but it is impossible if I cannot get the trackback to work.

Please help if you can. I am open to all suggestions and assistance.
